While many businesses are solely focused on using Facebook and Twitter, Google+ is something that shouldn’t overlook. Android has tapped into this market and they are currently the top brand on Google+, with over 365,000 followers, placing them higher on the list than brands like ESPN and Coca-Cola.

Having a strong presence on Google+ can help brands drive more traffic to their site and thus potentially increase revenue. Unlike many of the other social media platforms, Google+ allows businesses to improve their SEO rankings on Google. While Facebook mentions and Twitter are both important, you can get higher rankings in a search by having more followers. While Facebook mentions and Twitter are both important, you can get higher rankings in a search by having more followers. Google designed this specifically to get more people creating user pages.

Because of the impact having a Google+ page can do for your company, it is important to create a page that will be worth your time and effort. Here are things that Android is doing that help them in being successful and you can incorporate into your businesses Google+.

Ten cent applications: As a promotion, Android offered apps for 10 cents for 10 days. You may not do the exact same thing, depending on what your business is, but the idea of valuable promotions can carry across to most companies. Offering something special that draws users in will get liked and shared – Android had over 2,000 shares and 3,000 +1’s with this promotion alone.

Video Content: Posting original video content that is engaging, creative, informative and unique will bring people to your site for sure. Android has posted demonstrations, game developer interviews, and an interview with Keith Richards for Google Music. This is original content that can only be found on their site, drawing in curious viewers.

Google Music: Android partnered up with Google Music to offer discounted music albums for $1, as well as free music that could be shared with your Google+ circles. You may not be able to do this with your brand, but promoting something free or discounted always draws attention.

These are just three examples of what you can do with your Google+ page to make it more successful. People follow the brand because they know they will get a lot of useful data on a regular basis, as well as sometimes exclusive offers.

Every business or brand can learn from Android because they have thought about all aspects of their business and added it to their Google+ page. What can you incorporate on your page that you learned from Android?

At Google we have been working hard to bring more relevant ads on Google Search. Since then, we’ve launched over a dozen new ad formats, and tested many more. The new ad formats are designed to make sure that our users find the information they are looking for and as an advertiser you’re able to reach potential customers with the right information, in the format the users like. This philosophy is the genesis of what we call our latest ad format ‘Media Ads’.

Media Ads is a new ad model that introduces new ways to target, pay for, and experience video ads on Google Search. Unlike other other video format, Media Ads is an entirely standalone format designed to put your video ads front and center.

To start, Media Ads isn’t targeted like typical AdWords ads on Google Search. With Media Ads, you don’t pick any keywords — the targeting is completely automated. When someone enters a search on Google.com/Google.co.in that our algorithms determine is directly related to the movie/show/games/DVDs title (most commonly the title and variations on it), we automatically display the Media Ad at the top of the search results page. The format does not allow advertiser to pick competing keywords for ex: If a user types ‘Sach ka Saamna’ only ads units containing video from ‘Sach ka Saamna’ will appear.

In India, the media ads format is launched with STAR TV campaign built around their new channel Life Ok. The media & entertainment category search volumes on Google search have shown phenomenal growth. In the last two years the query volumes have grown at over 125% yoy. With the launch of media ads format – media companies, will be able to capture this traffic on Google search and leverage it to create familiarity of the content, sampling and immerse the user with a rich experience with sight, sound & motion. Our research has shown that a substantial number of users are usually looking to watch the movie trailer, TV show clips on the search results page itself which translates into a very high response rate for this Ad format.” said, Praveen Sharma, Head of media sales, Google India

Media Ads format on Google Search

Media Ads also changes the way users experience video on Google search. Media Ads introduces a new Lightbox media player. When someone plays the video either by clicking the thumbnail or the “watch” link, the Lightbox player expands to the center of the screen and dims the rest of the page around it. The experience is meant to put the viewer’s full attention on the video and to create a much more theater-like experience. Media Ads are charged at a flat rate on clicks. This simplified pricing model makes it easier to budget for your Media Ads campaign and to know exactly how much an interaction is going to cost.

Ads on Google Search

After 90 days and more than 1,55,000 entries from across India, the country got its third ‘made in India’ doodle. The Global Doodle team and Jennifer Hom, the creative force behind Gandhi’s birth anniversary doodle, chose the winning doodle for India out of the 44 semi-finalists at the colorful event.

Varsha Gupta, a grade 3 student from Ryan International School in Greater Noida, has been announced as the winner for this year’s Doodle4Google competition. Her doodle was chosen from over 1,55,000 doodles submitted by students from across the country. It was selected based on artistic merit, creativity, and expression of the theme “India’s gift to the world”. Rajan Anandan, Managing Director and VP Sales and Operations for Google India, presented Varsha with the winning certificate at a celebration today in Delhi, along with a technology starter package including a laptop, a year’s Internet connection and a Rs.2,00,000 technology grant for her school.

Congratulating the winner, Rajan Anandan said, “I am delighted to see the enthusiasm that the youngsters have put in to showcase their creativity. As they say, be like a child, as a child has fresh ideas and is unbiased. We hope this gets bigger each year.”

Varsha’s winning doodle, titled “Indian Musical Instruments” will appear on the Google India homepage all day on 14th November 2011. Explaining her doodle, Varsha writes, “India is a land of different cultures. In India, music plays a very important role. India has given many musical instruments to the world. Goddess Saraswati plays Veena, God Shiv plays Damaru. According to our mythological stories musical instruments used to be played on all the occasions. Even during war musical instruments were played. Lord Krishna’s flute is known in the whole world for its magical music. In modern days Mr. Zakir Hussain is world famous as Tabla Mastro and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is known as a great Santoor player all over the world”.

The Doodle4Google competition was open to all students from 1st-10th standard. This year participants were challenged to imagine their own version of the Google logo based on the theme “India’s gift to the world”. From ‘The World is one family’’ to ‘India My Country’ to ‘Spectacular Contribution to India’ to ‘Gallantry Gifts From India’ the doodles showcased the creativity of young Indian children, and the understanding and sensitivity they have for their country.

Submitted doodles were shortlisted by partner art schools from across the country, after which 6000 doodles entered the quarter-final round. Faculty from the Sir JJ School of Arts then shortlisted the 600 doodles that made it to the semifinal round. An esteemed panel of judges that included Prasoon Joshi (advertising guru), Nandita Das (award winning film actress) and Ganga Kadakia (renowned artist) picked our 45 finalists.

Besides the national winner, three group winners were also chosen. These were picked through an online voting system where the Indian public voted for their favourite doodle from the finalists.

Shibajyoti Choudhury (Group I) from Jamshedpur won the group prize for his doodle titled ‘Developing excellent India and World’; Abhinav R. (Group II) from Coimbatore won the prize for his doodle titled ‘India’s contribution to the world – Tradition’. And Nishi Bordia (Group III) from Indore won the prize for her doodle titled ‘India’s gift to the world – India itself’. The group winners were each awarded a Technology Starter package.

The details of the winners are listed below. To see all the finalists’ doodles, go to www.google.co.in/doodle4google

Directory Submission

Directories are site which are made to give backlinks to people. Some directories are free and some are paid. Submitting links to directory is as easy as signing up for new email account at gmail

But many people ignore it, because they thought directory approval time is endless and they may never approve our sites. But did you ever think the guys behind those directories are just like us, and they are even more good then us. Because they have taken all their time to create directory and giving us opportunity to get full backlinks.

So, just take a little breath and start submitting to directories now, and you can get your link approved if you make happy the directory owner by giving him/her reciprocal link, this will increase your approval time.

Some tips to get your site Approved at directories

1:- Don’t just take it easy , take each and every directory serious and submit full info.

2:- Fill in all the field with good information so that owner will not consider it as spam.

3:- Try to give reciprocal link, this will increase the change of approval to 95%.

4:- Choose the very right category for you site, other wise it may be considered as spam.

5:- Also choose right directories (means related to your niche) other wise your site may be penalized.

6:- Provide valid email.

7:- Use valid keywords, don’t over use.

Some basic reasons why your site isn’t getting approved

Many popular directories don’t usually approve new or little old sites, they only accept sites with some good background. Like if your site is new, they may not approve your link. Or if your site is old but not active they will still not approve. Or your site is old and active but with low quality traffic they will not approve.

So, I would like to say try directory submission at little later stage when your site grown up a little bit.

Benefits

Directory links are long lasting back links with long lasting effects on your rankings. One of the major benefit is that they are free to use, but some high quality directionless are paid but many are free as well.

Let us know what you think about directory submission, in the comment box just below.

In a year when more than 13 million hours of video was uploaded to YouTube globally, viewers across India were captivated by millions of entertaining videos on YouTube India. The list of most-watched videos on YouTube India in 2010, showcases how Indian users logged on to YouTube to get their daily dose of entertainment watching inspirational to latest bollywood music videos to older classic from the 1980s to news videos. Globally “YouTube has become the world’s town square – a place where culture is created and shared.
