Air India Airbus A320 Delivery marks opening of Hyderabad Air Show
Number of eco-efficient A320 Family in fleet rises to some 90 aircraft
Air India, India’s national carrier, has celebrated the delivery of a directly purchased A320 aircraft as part of the second Hyderabad Air Show, ‘India Aviation 2010’ inauguration ceremony. The delivery increases the total number of A320 aircraft in the airline’s fleet to 46. The delivered aircraft is powered by CFM engines.
At the delivery, attended by the Honourable Minister for Civil Aviation Shri Praful Patel and other dignitaries, Air India Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Arvind Jadhav said, “We are happy to receive the delivery of the 46th A320 aircraft. With the aviation industry beginning to look up again, the addition of this aircraft will help us meet the growing passenger demand in India.”

Air India’s fleet has grown to 89 single aisle Airbus aircraft (19 A319s, 46 A320s and 24 A321s) as well as wide-bodies which includes two A330-200s. Indian Airlines, now merged with Air India was a launch customer for the A320. The company were quick to recognise the advantages of the A320 Family’s unique operational commonality, which allows airlines to use the same pool of cabin crews and maintenance engineers, resulting in significant cost savings
The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Each aircraft features fly by wire controls and all share a unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range. Over 6,500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold and more than 4,100 delivered to some 300 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world’s best selling commercial jetliner ever. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft. Uniquely, the A320 Family offers a containerized cargo system, which is compatible with the worldwide standard wide-body system.
