FotoFlock.com by Epson, the portal dedicated to all things photography, and now one of the most frequented sites on the subject, recently announced the results of the ‘Photo of the Year 2010′ contest, conceivably the biggest Indian photography contest held online annually!

The contest had 48 finalists, short listed from over 15,000 entries which had been gathered over a period of over 365 days. The contest provided an opportunity to be noticed and recognised by the country’s professionals, semi-pros and amateurs alike, providing a rare stepping stone to move into the big league.

Ultimately Mr. Subrata Kar from Kadamtala in Darjeeling won the first place winning an Epson Stylus Pro – 3885 Professional A2 printer worth Rs. 76,999/-.  Mr. Supriyo R Sarkar from Kolkata won the second place winning an Epson All in One Home Theatre Projector worth Rs. 49,900/- and Mr. Krishnendu Saha also from Kolkata won the third place winning an Epson PictureMate 310 portable photo printer worth Rs. 14,990/-, Epson also awarded three other contestants with consolation prizes of an Epson Stylus Photo TX 700W Photo All in One printer respectively.

The winners were chosen by three of India’s most celebrated photographers  – Rafique Sayed, Sharad Haksar, and Israr Qureshi after taking into account the votes of the members of Fotoflock who were invited to vote online for their favourite pictures.

Chosen after a yearlong process, during which 48 ‘Photos of the Month’ were chosen and voted for by the community (popularly known as ‘the flock’), the Photo of the Year contest is perhaps the most democratic of all photo contests. All members of this highly active community site, which total to almost six and a half thousand, had a chance to vote for their favourite photo, based on what stems from an appraisal that only hard-core photographers and amateurs can offer.

Commenting on his win Mr. Subrata Kar said “ It’s like a dream come true. Such a great contest this is. I thank the ‘flock’ for giving me support, I thank ‘Fotoflock’ for the great feeling that I am experiencing now, and above all I would like to thank Epson for giving

us the photographers such a great platform. I would like to call upon all the photographers from India to showcase their works through this great site. It has been a year since I registered to fotoflock.com and this has been a learning experience.”

Fotoflock.com’s meteoric rise since the time it was launched makes it today the most frequented photography based community portal on the web, focused on an Indian audience. Updated on a daily basis, with weekly reviews, articles and reviews, and contests such as this, the site has some of the world’s (and India’s) finest and most renowned photographers providing information, intellect and interviews on a regular basis. With the latest product news, insightful articles on a variety of developments in the photography world, tips and tricks for those who seek them, a unique by and sell marketplace and a unique interactive social media plug-in that allows the community to share and discuss things, have all made FotoFlock.com a bookmark in many a photographer’s browser.
