To get a taste of the Oktoberfest, one would have to fly to Munich and partake in the 14 day long celebration. DHL in association with the Indo-German and other partners successfully celebrated Oktoberfest with the launch of the first time ever Mumbai Oktoberfest.
The German band, Die Oberbayern, rocked the party with traditional Oktoberfest and folk songs from Germany peppered with popular rock numbers that everyone could join in. Some jumped up on benches, some on bistro bars; others linked arms and swayed to the music on their benches itself. No one, but no-one, escaped untouched.
The breweries of Erdinger Weissbraeu provided a variety of wheat and other beers and ensured that no one had an empty glass throughout the 3 days. Mumbaikars did us proud when we matched the Germans sip for sip and liter for liter.
“The most popular beer fest in the world was celebrated with the world’s most popular wheat beer -Erdinger Weissbier” said Oliver Helbig of Erdinger Weissbraeu.
“DHL is proud to be associated with the first time ever Mumbai Oktoberfest and bring one of Germany’s most famous events to India. Mumbaiites could enjoy the unique event that showcased the traditional breweries and bands” Christoph Remund, CEO, DHL Lemuir Logistics, India.
R. S. Subramanian, Country Manager, DHL Express said “The Oktoberfest is a very popular festival which started in Germany several hundred years ago and we are pleased to help create a similar experience for our customers and partners here in Mumbai. While this was the first Oktoberfest in Mumbai, the popularity of the event was truly overwhelming and we expect this tradition to continue – we will, of course, be happy to continue this association with the Indo German Chamber of Commerce”
“This was an outstanding experience. Indo-german fellowship at its best. German perfection and the Indian spirit- the ultimate match with music, food and drinks from one of the oldest and most successful festivals in the world, the famous Munich Oktoberfest” commented Mr Bernhard Steinruecke, Director General of the Indo German Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Peter Deubet, Deputy Director General of the Indo German Chamber of Commerce promised “The Mumbai Oktoberfest will now be an annual event in Mumbai’s calendar and we will return next year with a much bigger event”.
