DHL brings ‘Gurukul’ to Delhi
World’s leading logistics company opens second specialised training centre in India to improve quality, safety & customer satisfaction in supply chain operations
DHL, the world’s leading logistics company launched its operations simulation centre, ‘GURUKUL’ at Pataudi in Gurgaon, NCR, India. An initiative of DHL Supply Chain, the training centre is aimed at developing the skills of blue collar workers by imparting a consistent and standardized training on several aspects of warehouse operations, which would include the critical subjects of Safety, Health and Environment at their warehouses across the country. This is the second Gurukul centre set up by DHL in India.
India has seen significant growth in sectors such as Pharmaceuticals, Automotive, Retail, and Technology which are quickly being integrated into global supply chains. While infrastructural challenges exist, the key to managing these supply chains effectively are well-trained, professional and skilled employees. The 3PL market is poised to re-invent itself and companies that quickly adapt to the changing scenario will not only differentiate themselves, but also successfully capture this major growth opportunity. DHL’s Training Centre will impart best practice knowledge to its employees, thereby up scaling their skill sets, so that their service offering is at par with DHL’s global standards.
This training will not only be a part of the employee induction program at the grass root level but will also assist in developing its existing workforce to encourage and promote their talent for further growth within the organisation. The training module has been adapted to suit local requirements and will also be delivered in Hindi for the blue collared employees.
“We expect this initiative to set a new benchmark in service delivery and customer delight,” said Oscar de Bok, Senior Vice President, South Asia & Indo China, DHL Supply Chain. “The introduction of the Goods & Services Tax will require Logistics Service Providers to swiftly adapt to a rapidly changing scenario. Aside from the brick and mortar requirements, we realize, of utmost significance is the key role played by our professional employees, who must be fully equipped to meet customer expectations by providing world class service,” he added.
An interesting combination of classroom coaching and practical assessment will form a part of the curriculum. Employees will be trained on various aspects of warehouse operations including order picking, inventory management, housekeeping, hazard awareness and security.
Speaking at the launch, Vikas Anand, Director – Operations, DHL Supply Chain India, said, “Our employees who have undergone training from the first Gurukul in Mumbai have made remarkable progress. The training has enhanced their knowledge and competencies, enabling them to deliver excellent quality along with safe and superior operations.”
DHL plans to set up similar training centers in other parts of the country, to eventually cover all employees in India.
